In a rare show of bipartisan acknowledgment, former  Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has lauded Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for offering what he termed as a constructive alternative to the controversial cooperation deal between President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Kuria commended Sifuna for moving beyond criticism and presenting substantive proposals aimed at improving service delivery in Nairobi County. The CS described the senator’s approach as mature and issue based, emphasizing that leadership should focus on solutions rather than political rivalry.

The cooperation agreement between President Ruto and Governor Sakaja has sparked heated political debate, with critics questioning its structure, transparency, and long-term impact on devolution. While some leaders have framed the deal as necessary for accelerating development and resolving Nairobi’s persistent service challenges, others argue it risks undermining county autonomy.

Senator Sifuna, a vocal figure in Nairobi politics, has consistently maintained that while collaboration between national and county governments is important, it must strictly adhere to constitutional provisions. He proposed alternative frameworks that would safeguard devolution while still enabling joint development projects.

Kuria’s public praise of Sifuna signals a shift toward issue-based politics in an environment often defined by party divisions. Political analysts note that such acknowledgment across the aisle could lower political temperatures and encourage more policy-driven discourse.
The development also places pressure on other leaders to contribute constructively to national debates rather than fueling polarization. As Nairobi residents continue to demand improved infrastructure, better waste management, and enhanced public services, the focus now turns to whether political goodwill will translate into tangible results.

Ultimately, the exchange highlights an evolving political dynamic where performance and accountability are increasingly shaping public conversations an encouraging sign for Kenya’s democratic space.
