Modern Mosque Opens in North Horr, Marsabit County Ahead of Ramadhan

In a significant milestone for the local Muslim community, the newly constructed Masjid Nur mosque was officially opened in North Horr, Marsabit County, on Saturday.
The event, graced by Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, marked the culmination of a five-year fundraising effort led by the Chalbi Da’wa Group, Turkish Hayrat Yardim, and Kenya’s Muslim business community.
The modern mosque, designed to serve as both a place of worship and a hub for community development, was completed just in time for the holy month of Ramadhan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Duale praised the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition, emphasizing the importance of unity and faith in driving social progress.
“This mosque is not just a place of worship but a symbol of hope and development for the people of North Horr,” Duale said. He also pledged the government’s support for the construction of the mosque’s ablution block, reaffirming the state’s commitment to fostering religious and social growth.
The opening ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Marsabit Governor H.E. Mohammed Mahmoud, Marsabit Senator Mohammed Chute, North Horr MP Hon. Adhe Wario, Former Treasury CS Amb. Ukur Yattani, and NEMA Director General Mamo B. Mamo.
Local residents and religious leaders also joined in the celebrations, which underscored the mosque’s significance as a unifying force in the region.
Governor Mahmoud lauded the project as a testament to the power of community collaboration, while Senator Chute highlighted the mosque’s potential to promote peace and cohesion in Marsabit County.
The Turkish Hayrat Yardim organization, which played a key role in the mosque’s construction, was also recognized for its contribution to the project.
As the holy month of Ramadhan approaches, the opening of Masjid Nur has brought renewed hope and inspiration to the people of North Horr.
The mosque stands as a beacon of faith, unity, and progress, promising to serve not only as a spiritual sanctuary but also as a catalyst for community development in the region.
