Long trusted to stand silently but affirmatively alongside the opposition icon Raila Odinga, Maurice Ogeta has now taken the step into an awesome public space as the new appointment in Mombasa as Security Advisor.
He accumulated discipline, loyalty, and professionalism as Raila Odinga’s bodyguard for several years, during the most politically charged moments in Kenya history. His calm presence amidst political tension brought him respect across the divide, even as he worked largely behind the scenes.
This is the first time Ogeta would be transporting his personal security into a public service position, thereby placing him right at the center where it all merges: the security coordination of one of Kenya’s most strategically placed coastal cities. As an important economic hub and a key entry point to the region, Mombasa is faced with many complicated security challenges, from urban crime to terrorism threats; therefore, the role is both sensitive and critical.
