The Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) has embarked on a significant endeavor to ensure the safeguarding of properties and assets valued at billions of shillings, previously under the stewardship of its chairperson, Rahab Mwikali.
During an address in Uasin Gishu County over the weekend, Mwikali reaffirmed her commitment to fulfilling pledges made nearly a decade ago, upon securing the mandate of members nationwide to lead the organization. She highlighted the ongoing efforts to transfer ownership of properties, including prime land in all 47 counties, from the Board of Trustees to MYWO.
Mwikali’s remarks were delivered at the launch of the 9th Clean Energy Drinking Water Solution in Kenya program, hosted at the Home Craft hall in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The event saw the presence of Lydia Mzee, Chairperson of the Joyful Women Organization (JOYWO) Uasin Gishu chapter, who encouraged women to engage with savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs) to access loans for business ventures, thus fostering economic empowerment.
Emphasizing the importance of transparent and efficient management, Mwikali stressed that such initiatives are pivotal in preventing disputes over organizational assets. She noted significant progress in transferring title deeds for prime lands previously held by the Board of Trustees to MYWO, across more than 20 regional governments.
Assuring MYWO’s extensive membership of over 3 million individuals, Mwikali reiterated the organization’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its properties nationwide. She highlighted successful collaborations with national and county governments, resulting in the transfer of 24 title deeds in various counties, including Mombasa, Kitui, Kisumu, and Kakamega.
Furthermore, Mwikali announced the acquisition of title deeds for MYWO-owned land in Embu County, valued at approximately 100 million shillings.
The event’s significance was underscored by Lydia Mzee’s call for women to harness the opportunities offered by SACCOs to embark on entrepreneurial journeys, echoing MYWO’s broader mission of female empowerment.
MYWO’s proactive measures under the leadership of Rahab Mwikali signify a steadfast commitment to safeguarding organizational assets and promoting the economic empowerment of women across Kenya.
