Kosachei Primary School Journalism Club has marked the end of the school year while bidding farewell to Grade 9 students preparing to transition to senior school.

The celebration brought together learners, teachers and visitors from Hubz Media Eldoret to reflect on the club’s achievements and recognise its role in nurturing young journalism talent.

The event also provided an opportunity for outgoing members to reflect on the skills they had acquired and encourage continuing members to remain active in journalism as they advance in their education.

Speaking during the celebration, Kosachei Primary School Deputy Headteacher Veronicah Lelei said the club had helped raise the school’s profile through media engagements and visits to other learning institutions.

“This school has been known through the media. These students have gone far with media by going to other schools to teach them. I thank the Grade 9 students for being supportive, and as they go to senior school, let them shine,” said Lelei.

Club patron Bittok Wesly said the initiative was established in 2020 to give learners an opportunity to explore journalism and develop practical communication skills.

He noted that the club had enabled students to visit several media houses, exposing them to different aspects of the profession and helping them gain confidence in their abilities.

“We have been able to visit many media houses through this team. I hope that in some years to come, we will see this group in different media houses shining,” said Wesly.

Kosachei Primary School camera operator Vibian Jepchumba said members had gained practical experience in photography, videography and news presentation through their participation in the club.

“Through this club, we have learnt a lot, including taking photos and videos, and even reading news,” said Jepchumba.

Student reporter and news anchor Nevil Kimutai urged fellow members to continue developing their talents as they prepare for the next stage of their education.

“The visitors from Hubz Media have taught us a lot, and as we join senior school, let us not sleep on our talents but keep the spirit alive,” said Kimutai.

The involvement of Hubz Media Eldoret has provided learners with opportunities to interact with media practitioners and gain insights into the demands of journalism.

The club’s activities have also given students a platform to practise reporting, photography and news reading while sharing their experiences with learners from other schools.

As the Grade 9 students prepare to join senior school, the school community expressed hope that they would continue pursuing their interests in journalism and apply the skills they have acquired.

The year-end celebration marked a new chapter for the outgoing members while reaffirming the school’s commitment to nurturing young communicators and preparing learners for future opportunities in the media industry.
