Kipchumba Murkomen Hails New FKF Leadership
The elections signal a fresh start for FKF, with expectations high for transformative leadership to propel Kenyan football to new heights.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has delivered on his promise to resolve the leadership impasse at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), culminating in the election of new office bearers.
Speaking after the elections, Murkomen congratulated Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga on their election as FKF President and Vice President, respectively, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the new leadership in revitalizing Kenyan football.
“I made a solemn promise during my vetting for this docket that I would unlock the election impasse in the Football Kenya Federation and that we shall enforce the law of term limits,” Murkomen stated. “That promise has been fulfilled today following the election of new office bearers of FKF.”
The Cabinet Secretary expressed confidence in the newly elected leaders, describing them as the best team to bring fresh energy and innovative ideas to the management of Kenyan football.
“I have not an iota of doubt that you’re the best possible team that will inject new dynamism, energy, and fresh ideas into the management of our football,” he said.
Murkomen emphasized that the elections marked a turning point for sports governance in Kenya, calling out federations that resist accountability and good governance.
“This should send a message to all federations who frustrate efforts to hold elections that their time is up. Good governance in our sports is not negotiable,” he declared.
The election of Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga has sparked hope for a new era in Kenyan football. Mohammed, a seasoned sports administrator, and Mariga, a former international footballer, bring a mix of experience and passion that stakeholders believe can steer FKF toward growth and excellence.
The Cabinet Secretary also assured the new leadership of unwavering government support, pledging to work closely with them to elevate the standards of football in Kenya. “I wish to assure you that the government will give you all the support you need to take our football to the next level,” he said.
As FKF’s new leadership embarks on its mission to rebuild and reposition Kenyan football, the government’s backing and Murkomen’s insistence on accountability set the stage for a renewed focus on governance and development in the sport. “To Hussein and the new team, I wish you Godspeed!” Murkomen concluded.
