Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to embrace innovative and user-friendly approaches to enhance the nation’s revenue collection efforts.

In a statement highlighting the critical role of taxes in economic development, Kindiki emphasized the need for a more engaging and efficient system that encourages compliance among taxpayers.

“We must continuously innovate and adopt client-friendly revenue mobilization measures while ensuring the prudent management of resources collected from taxpayers,” Kindiki asserted.

His remarks come as Kenya seeks to improve its tax collection strategies in the face of ongoing economic challenges and a growing public sector.

Kindiki underscored that taxes are fundamental to the growth of the nation, stating, “Every Kenyan has a duty to pay taxes for the development and well-being of our nation. We will build our country using revenue collected from individuals and corporate entities.”

He stressed the importance of fostering a culture of tax compliance, arguing that it is essential for financing public services and infrastructure development.

The Deputy President’s message aligns with President William Ruto’s ongoing campaign against tax evasion and corruption, which have been identified as major impediments to revenue generation in Kenya.

Ruto has publicly condemned tax evaders, stating, “Tax evaders should not be allowed to hide resources owed to Kenyans while benefiting from public services.” This stance reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring that all citizens contribute their fair share to the national exchequer.

In recent months, the KRA has initiated various reforms aimed at streamlining tax collection processes and making compliance easier for businesses and individuals. These efforts include digital platforms for filing taxes and improving customer service to enhance the taxpayer experience.

The KRA has also been working on expanding its outreach programs to educate citizens on their tax obligations and the importance of supporting national development through tax contributions.

As the government pushes for increased revenue generation, officials are hopeful that innovative solutions will not only boost compliance but also enhance public trust in the tax system.

By addressing the challenges of tax evasion and corruption, Kenya aims to secure a more stable economic future and ensure that the resources needed for development are effectively mobilized.
