A tragic incident has shocked residents of Kiambu County after a nine-year-old boy was abducted and later found murdered, with suspects allegedly demanding a ransom of Ksh150,000 from his family.
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the crime, identified as James Ngigi Ngendo, 32, and James Mburi Chichu, 75. The duo remains in custody after a court granted detectives 10 days to continue with investigations into the case.
According to police reports, the ordeal began after the boy’s mother left him at home in Kajai area, Githunguri, under the care of his grandmother and sibling while she attended a family function in Kipipiri.
Moments later, the grandmother received a distressing phone call from an unknown man claiming to have abducted the child and demanding a ransom of Ksh150,000 for his release.
Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the first suspect to Gitothua in Ruiru. The suspect subsequently led investigators to the second suspect in Kigio area within Githunguri.
During the operation, officers made a grim discovery after recovering the boy’s body, which had been concealed inside a manila bag and hidden on a rooftop at a house where the first suspect had reportedly been residing.
The body was later moved to Mukoe Funeral Home, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police say investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the abduction and killing, as well as determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.
