Kenyan Leaders Pay Tribute to Pope Francis Following His Passing

President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, President Ruto described the Pope’s death as a significant loss to the Catholic faithful and the Christian world.
“We join the Catholic Church and the global Christian community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis,” Ruto said. “Pope Francis will be remembered for a life dedicated to serving the Lord, the Church, and humanity.”
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also paid tribute, stating, “We are mourning the death of Pope Francis. He was a mentor with unwavering faith; he has left a legacy to the world. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula described Pope Francis as a beacon of humility, compassion, and social justice, noting that the Pope dedicated his life to serving God and humanity. “Pope Francis upheld Christian teachings of love, mercy, and forgiveness, regardless of race or nationality,” Wetangula said.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and its first leader from Latin America. His papacy was marked by a commitment to humility, inclusivity, and advocacy for the poor and marginalized. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from global leaders and religious figures, emphasizing his dedication to social justice and peace.
