Kenya has launched a digital nomad visa, inviting remote workers worldwide to live and work in the country while enjoying its rich cultural and natural attractions.
Announced on October 2, 2024, by President William Ruto, this initiative aims to boost tourism and diversify the economy by attracting professionals who can work remotely.
Application Requirements
To be eligible for the digital nomad visa, applicants must provide:
– A valid passport
Proof of remote employment with a company based outside Kenya
Evidence of accommodation within Kenya
A clean criminal record
A minimum annual income of $55,000
These criteria ensure that incoming digital nomads can support themselves during their stay.
Enhancing Connectivity
Recognizing the importance of reliable internet for remote work, Kenya is expanding its fiber optic infrastructure to improve connectivity across the country.
This development aims to provide dependable internet access not only in major cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru but also in outlying areas such as Eldoret, Nyeri, and Nanyuki.
