On Monday, a 51-year-old employee of Kenya Breweries found himself in court, facing charges of assault causing actual bodily harm to his wife, Elseba Jepleting Barno, in violation of Section 251 of the Penal Code.
Willy Kibet Kese, the accused, was apprehended on April 3rd in the Annex area of Keses Sub County, Uasin Gishu, along with another individual who stands accused of similarly assaulting Elseba, a mother of five, as reported by her sister.
Elseba suffered severe physical abuse, her hands bound with a rope, and confined to the back seats of a car following the assault. Reports suggest that her husband, the alleged perpetrator, forcefully yanked her braids. Presently in hiding, Elseba fears for her life, seeking solace in the prospect of justice from the courts.

However, the family’s attempts to broaden the charges to include threats against Elseba’s life were rebuffed. The perpetrator purportedly enjoys familial ties to a prominent judicial figure in Eldoret. Despite this, the family maintains hope in the judicial process, seeking justice amidst a troubling surge in violence against women.
Senior Resident Magistrate– Keyne Gweno Odhiambo has scheduled the pre-trial hearing for May 6th this year.
