The Ministry of Health has held talks with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, and public health response.

The meeting, chaired by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, brought together newly appointed Special Representative and Regional Advisor for the East Africa Regional Coordinating Centres, Dr. Lul Riek, for introductory and bilateral discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between Kenya and the continental health body.

The engagement centered on improving regional coordination in managing disease outbreaks, strengthening data sharing systems, and building capacity to respond to emerging and re-emerging public health threats across East Africa.

In a statement, officials noted that the discussions also emphasized “enhancing regional collaboration in disease surveillance, preparedness, and response to public health emergencies,” alongside improving cross-border coordination mechanisms.

The talks further explored ways to deepen cooperation in health security, workforce development, and the establishment of more resilient health systems capable of responding rapidly to outbreaks and other health emergencies.

Participants underscored the importance of aligning national and regional efforts to ensure timely detection and response to public health risks.
