Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is set to host the Sustainable Energy Conference 2026 in Naivasha from November 24 to 27, bringing together stakeholders to discuss Africa’s energy transition and its role in industrial development.
The four-day conference will be held at the KenGen Olkaria Geothermal Spa under the theme, “Powering Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution.”
According to a post shared by KenGen and highlighted by Frank David Ochieng, the conference will focus on a growing debate around Africa’s energy future, with attention shifting from electricity generation and access to how available power can drive wider economic activity.
The organisers say reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity can provide a foundation for manufacturing, investment, job creation, technology and digital businesses across the continent.
Africa has traditionally faced significant challenges in expanding electricity access and generation capacity. The conference is expected to examine how the continent can build on progress in the energy sector while using clean energy resources to support economic growth.
KenGen’s focus on Olkaria also places geothermal power at the centre of the discussions. The Olkaria geothermal fields in Nakuru County are among Kenya’s most important sources of geothermal electricity and have played a significant role in the country’s shift towards renewable energy.
The conference will bring together energy-sector stakeholders at a time when African countries are seeking to expand electricity supply while reducing reliance on high-emission sources.
The post noted that Africa has access to a range of renewable energy resources, including geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind. These resources could support industrial development if accompanied by investment in infrastructure, manufacturing capacity and energy-intensive industries.
Beyond electricity generation, the organisers intend to highlight the connection between energy and economic opportunity. Reliable power can help manufacturers operate consistently, support processing of locally produced goods and strengthen value chains.
The conference is also expected to examine the role of energy in supporting technology and digital businesses, which require dependable electricity and communications infrastructure.
The organisers argue that Africa has an opportunity to pursue economic development while expanding cleaner sources of energy. The continent’s renewable energy potential, combined with its growing demand for electricity, has attracted increasing attention from investors and development institutions.

The choice of Olkaria as the venue also highlights Kenya’s experience with geothermal power. Kenya has developed geothermal generation as a major component of its electricity system, particularly through projects in the Rift Valley.
