Kapkeno Jazz has commenced on a 47-hour “stay up the tree” challenge at Nandi Gardens, Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County, to bring awareness of the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

The awareness initiative began on Monday, with Kapkeno Jazz climbing a tree at the popular public gardens with a commitment to Remaining there for 47 hours continuously. It has since attracted increasing attention from residents, youth groups, and passersby, many of whom have stopped by to witness the symbolic act and engage in conversations about the menace of drug abuse.

Starting the challenge, Kapkeno Jazz had said it was meant to start a real talk that was especially important for the young people: talk on drug and substance abuse, their harmful effects, and how to avoid them. He observed that the problem continues to affect families and communities, robbing many youths of their potential, and called for collective action to address the issue.

The campaign’s organizers asserted that not only will awareness about drug abuse be raised, but also invited members of the community, local leaders, and anti-drug agencies to join their cause against prevention and rehabilitation. They noted the need to use a different angle approach to catch public attention while wider public participation in the fight against drugs is encouraged.

Activities have been rolling in Nandi Gardens that would educate the public, with visitors encouraged to interact, share experiences, and learn of how drug abuse could be prevented and tackled throughout that period of the challenge. The young groups have particularly taken it on, describing it as a creative and impactful way to drive the important message.

Kapkeno Jazz will conclude his 47-hour challenge today, Wednesday, at 2:00 pm, when he will come down from the tree at Nandi Gardens. At the end of the campaign, he is set to issue a closing address, reinforcing the call for a drug-free society and urging individuals, families, and authorities to work together in combating drug and substance abuse.

The optimism is that the impact of the challenge is of lasting effect in evoking further community initiatives aimed at empowering and protecting the youth from unhealthy drug-free lifestyles.
