Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for swift action from the judiciary to hold police officers accountable for their involvement in recent cases of abductions, kidnappings, and extrajudicial killings in Kenya.

Speaking on behalf of outraged Kenyans, Kalonzo condemned these human rights violations, urging the prosecution of those responsible for such crimes. He warned that these actions not only violate the law but also threaten the foundation of Kenya’s democracy.

“These are criminal acts, and they undermine the very core of our nation, which was built on the principles of democracy, inclusion, and equality,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo’s concerns come in the wake of a disturbing rise in high-profile cases of enforced disappearances, many of which have been linked to security forces. A particularly alarming case was the abduction of three men, including activist Bob Njagi, from Kitengela in August 2024. The trio went missing for nearly a month before being found alive, prompting further scrutiny on the police’s role in such unlawful detentions.

“These kidnappings are unacceptable. The fact that our own security forces are being implicated in such atrocities is deeply troubling. We need answers, and we need justice for the victims,” Kalonzo emphasized.

Kalonzo also took aim at the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing President William Ruto of failing to uphold constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. He criticized the government’s use of excessive force, particularly during protests, pointing to the deaths of over 75 demonstrators as evidence of a broader crackdown on civil liberties.

“The rights of the people are being trampled upon, and this government has not only allowed it to happen but has actively contributed to the erosion of our freedoms. President Ruto must take responsibility,” Kalonzo charged.

Civil society organizations, including the Law Society of Kenya, have joined in demanding thorough investigations and justice for the victims of these abuses. Kalonzo warned that failure to address these violations could have severe consequences for Kenya’s democratic institutions and social stability.

“If the government continues to ignore these issues, we are headed for a dark future where the rule of law is replaced by fear and repression. We cannot allow that to happen,” he concluded.

The mounting pressure from civil society and political leaders underscores the urgency for justice and reform in Kenya’s law enforcement agencies as the country grapples with these serious human rights challenges.
