Julius Sello Malema, a prominent South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has recently gone viral on the X platform after he praised Kenyan youths for their protests against the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
Malema posted on his X account, “Keep making us proud, Kenyan youth. You’re doing an amazing job,” in recognition of their efforts, which ultimately led President William Ruto to reconsider signing the bill.
Malema’s comments followed a press briefing by President Ruto at the statehouse, where he announced his decision to withdraw the Finance Bill 2024. The announcement came after widespread protests by Kenyan youths, who denounced the bill as punitive.
The reaction to Malema’s post on X was overwhelmingly positive, with many Kenyans expressing their gratitude for his support. Wangechi Darwin, an X user, commented,
“Thank you. We, the people of Kenya, are also asking the people of Haiti to make us proud. Ruto must fall from all dimensions until everyone is free.” Another user, Derito, simply stated, “Thank you, comrade Malema,” while Wangila replied, “Together, we can change Africa.”
Malema has a history of speaking out on issues affecting humanity, advocating for human rights, and condemning crimes against humanity. During a recent visit to Kenya for the launch of the Pan African Institute, he criticized President Ruto for failing to deliver on his election promises.
Additionally, Malema has been vocal about international issues, such as the conflict in Palestine, where he has called for boycotts and sanctions against Israel.
