Junior secondary school teachers whose contracts were recently terminated by the government can finally rejoice following an announcement on plans to rehire them.

According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on June 27, 2024, over 700 teachers who had been dismissed will soon be rehired. TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia outlined the process for re-employment, stating, “The interns must first appeal to the commission to be heard as required by the law.”

Macharia encouraged the affected teachers to file appeals and mentioned that plans are underway to offer permanent and pensionable positions to junior secondary school teachers in public schools.

“We are confident that adequate funds will be availed for the exercise, and 1 billion shillings has been set aside in order to promote more teachers,” she stated.
