Increased cases of Robbery and Muggings; Security officers on alert Central Kenya

Security officers in Central Kenya are on high alert following an increase in cases of muggings and robberies especially within the urban centers in the region.

 

 

Speaking after a stakeholders forum on illicit brew in Nyeri County, acting central regional police commander Benson Maina Says that police have intensified patrols, as they seek to weed out criminal elements that have mushroomed in recent past.

 

 

“We have intensified and enhanced security, we have also intensified patrols and made our officers are alert every day in order to reduce those cases.” Said Maina

The meeting that brought together state agencies responsible in the fight against contraband items, resolved to take a more strategic approach towards the fight against illicit brew and contraband goods.

 

Benson Leparmorijo, the deputy regional Commissioner attributing the never ending menace to repeat offenders who go through the justice system and who end up back to the society and continue with the business.

 

 

“The only worry is that you conduct raids,and then the same people go back to that same business. Probably sometimes some of them have no alternative means of livelihood but this is  lame excuse” said Leparmorijo.

The deputy regional commissioner has also revealed that the worst hit counties in the sale of illicit brew are Nyeri, Kiambu and Kirinyaga, with Nyandarua facing a challenge on the sale of second generation liqour.

 

 

The security agencies have promised to continue with impromptu raids with the aim of reducing the sale of contraband and illicit brew while at the same time employing new tactics in the fight.
