Kenya international Brian Onyango has officially parted ways with South African club Stellenbosch FC after just one season, reigniting speculation about where the seasoned defender will land next.
The former Posta Rangers and Tusker FC centre-back joined Stellenbosch at the beginning of the 2024–25 season, making only eight appearances across all competitions.
Despite limited game time, Onyango played a key role in helping the Winelands-based club reach the MTN8 final and secure a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Return to National Duty
Perhaps the biggest highlight of Onyango’s brief stay in South Africa was his comeback to the Harambee Stars. The towering defender earned a recall to the national team after nearly two years out of international football, becoming only the third Kenyan player to represent the national team while on Stellenbosch’s books.
His resurgence did not go unnoticed. Onyango was nominated for the club’s 2024–25 Sportsman of the Season award, a testament to his leadership and presence both on and off the pitch.
Club Statement and Departure
In an official club statement, Stellenbosch FC confirmed Onyango’s exit and lauded his short but impactful contribution:
“Everyone at Stellenbosch would like to thank Brian for his service to the club and wish him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.”
What’s Next for Brian Onyango?
With his contract now expired, the 30-year-old defender is actively seeking a new club — ideally one that guarantees him consistent playing time. Onyango is keen to stay match-fit and maintain his place in Engin Firat’s national team plans as Kenya gears up for upcoming qualifiers and regional tournaments.
Possible Destinations?
While no official offers have been confirmed, insiders suggest the veteran could return to the Kenyan Premier League or explore further regional opportunities in East Africa or the Gulf.
With plenty of playing years still ahead, Brian Onyango’s story is far from over. One thing is certain — wherever he goes next, he’ll bring leadership, strength, and passion to the backline.
