Any elected leader implicated in corruption will not be allowed to
access any of President William Ruto’s state events as that would
amount to sanctioning the vice, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has
revealed.

The outspoken Senator said that the graft suspects, whom he termed as
saboteurs of the economy, will only be allowed to access the Head of
State’s functions five kilometers away from the event while standing.

He said the security officers were under instructions to ensure
leaders implicated with mega corruption do not move near the
President’s state function to avoid causing embarrassment whether they
are from the ruling Kenya Kwanza party or the Opposition.

“Going forward any leader who has been mentioned or arraigned in court
in connection with corruption will not be allowed to access the
President’s functions and if they have to do so,  then they must
follow the event five kilometers away while standing ,” said
Cherargei.

The Senator who was accompanied by his Counterpart from West Pokot
county Julius Murgor made the remarks after holding a four meeting
with victims of First Choice Recruitment Consultancy who were
allegedly conned over sh 500 millions in botched foreign jobs in
Middle East and overseas study programmes.

His comments also came a few hours after Embattled Uasin Gishu Senator
Jackson Mandago was released on a sh 2 million bond with surety of
similar amount or a cash bail of sh 500,000 after spending a night in
custody.

The Senator and his two co-accused had appeared before Nakuru Senior
Principal Magistrate Peter Ndegwa on Thursday where they pleaded not
guilty to charges related to Finland’s Education programme scandal.

Problems for Mandago who is also the chairman of the Senate Health
Committee deepened on Friday when he faced a hostile reception while
accompanying Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his way to the
Eldoret Sport Club to officiate at the closure of the five days 8th
Devolution Conference.

Mandago was forced to dash for safety inside his car after Gachagua
addressed members of the public in Eldoret town enroute to close
Devolution Conference that attracted more than 10,000 participants.

This was after his attempt to address the crowd was met with stiff
opposition as they shouted him down over his alleged involvement in
the sh 1.1 billion Finland airlift education scandal and his
subsequent arrest by police detectives.

Drama unfolded when the UDA elected senator emerged from the sunroof
of his vehicle to acknowledge greetings from the crowd after arriving
from a Nakuru court.

He was however compelled to retreat quickly into his car after the
crowd shouted him down and hurled objects in his direction, accusing
him of swindling them off millions of money in the controversial
education programme
