Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Co-operative Bank of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Dr. Gideon Muriuki and his team for their generous support towards victims of the recent landslide tragedy in the county.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Rotich lauded the bank’s swift response and compassion, describing the gesture as a significant boost to ongoing relief efforts geared toward assisting affected families.
“I want to sincerely thank the CEO of Co-op Bank Kenya, Dr. Gideon Muriuki, and his team at Co-op Bank for such a kind gesture and support toward the victims of the unfortunate landslide in our county,” said the governor. “This will go a long way towards alleviating the suffering that the families are going through.”
The governor added that the donation from Co-operative Bank would go a long way in restoring hope for the displaced families as the county government continues to coordinate humanitarian aid and recovery efforts. He noted that many families had been left in distress by the disaster, with a number of them losing homes, property, and sources of livelihood.
The governor also thanked all those individuals, organizations, and institutions that have so far supported the victims or expressed willingness to do so. He reassured the public that every contribution would be acknowledged and accounted for transparently.
“We also thank all those who have supported and have reached out on their plans. We shall acknowledge publicly all those who have supported and those who are arranging in the spirit of gratitude, transparency, and accountability,” he added.
The recent landslide that hit parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County left a trail of destruction, displacing several families and disrupting normal life. Rescue and recovery operations have been ongoing, with both the county and national government agencies pooling their efforts to provide emergency relief.
Governor Rotich said his administration was committed to ensuring the affected families get enough support and long-term mitigation measures are undertaken for the same not to happen again.
He concluded his speech with a message of hope and solidarity, calling for unity and continued compassion from Kenyans during this difficult time. “May God bless you,” he said, acknowledging all well-wishers who have stood with the county in its hour of need. The governor’s remarks come as more organizations and citizens continue to join in efforts to mobilize aid for the landslide victims, which shows that collective responsibility is very important in responding to natural disasters.
