Elgeyo governor demands unconditional reinstatement of staff sacked by ELDOWAS!
-The County Boss has implored upon ELDOWAS to make public reasons for the sacking of the casuals and the Board Member following the growing anxiety-
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has demanded reinstatement of close to 50 casual staff and a member of the Board of Directors that were last week unfairly sacked by the Management of the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) .
Through a press statement issued on 21st June , Governor Rotich noted ELDOWAS sources its water from Chebara Dam in Moiben Kuserwo Ward, Marakwet West Sub-County and would be unfair to sack the staff without a notice ,
“It is therefore unbearable to send home staff who have been feeding their families through earnings from the utility company at this time of the year when the economy is down”
The statement further states ,Whereas I may not be privy to the circumstances that led to the sacking of the staff engaged in contract terms and the Board Member, ELDOWAS should UNCONDITIONALLY reinstate all staff as we look for a permanent solution. I have consulted with my colleague Governor of Uasin Gishu County, H.E Jonathan Chelilim and we have agreed to have a round table discussion between ELDOWAS and leadership from both Counties
Hundreds demonstrate demand removal of Eldowas MD Peter Biwott!
The governor observed that for several years, residents of Chebara, especially those who live upstream have had a persistent concern over access to water from the dam for their use. These residents have scaled down operations in their farms in order to protect the dam from erosion and other human activities thereby reducing their farm earnings.
“The leadership of ELDOWAS may not understand how the earnings they may perceive as ‘too little’ matter to our people. They have families to feed, bills to pay and terminating their earnings abruptly is not only unjustified but inhuman”Opined Governor Rotich.
The County Boss has implored upon ELDOWAS to make public reasons for the sacking of the casuals and the Board Member following the growing anxiety among residents of Marakwet County who demonstrated on Tuesday threatening to disrupt the flow of water from Chebara dam to Eldoret that is depended upon by thousands of people living in Uasin Gishu County,
“Concerns raised by the residents of Chebara and its environs should not be wished away but heard and addressed. The dam is almost three decades old now and being a shared resource, residents of Chebara deserve to be commended for their conservation efforts which has seen the continued and undisturbed supply of water in Eldoret town and its environs”
Hubzmedia has established a special general meeting of the shareholders and board of directors of the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company on 19th May at the Boma Hotel Eldoret and attended by the Uasin Gishu County Executive member for Water Sanitation ,Energy Natural resources ,Environment and climate change resolved to terminate the contract of one of the directors with immediate effect.
ELDOWAS managing Director Peter Biwott has since denied firing any of the staff and claimed to have confirmed 60 casual staff into permanent and pensionable terms and urged leaders against politicizing the matter .
The MD has further cautioned against any forms of threat aimed at disrupting the flow of water from Chebara Dam to Eldoret that contributes over 34,000 cubic meters of water daily.
