The Ministry of Health has reiterated its dedication to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Kenyans through the Taifa Care initiative.

This ambitious program aims to ensure equitable and affordable access to quality healthcare for every citizen, marking a significant step toward addressing health disparities in the country.

In a meeting held today, Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa, together with Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health), and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, engaged with chairpersons and CEOs of Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) under the Ministry of Health.

The discussions focused on evaluating progress, tackling challenges, and formulating strategies to accelerate the realization of UHC.

Key agenda items included strengthening collaboration and accountability among SAGAs to enhance service delivery.

The meeting highlighted critical areas such as improving healthcare financing, ensuring access to essential health products and technologies (HPTs), and advancing digital health solutions. These measures are intended to streamline healthcare services and make them more accessible to all Kenyans.

Dr. Barasa emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to making UHC a reality. “Taifa Care is our vehicle to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of their socio-economic status, has access to quality and affordable healthcare. Through effective collaboration and accountability, we are determined to deliver on this promise,” she stated.

The Ministry acknowledged the challenges that continue to hinder healthcare access, including inadequate funding, limited availability of essential medical supplies, and gaps in service delivery.

However, the ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system through innovative solutions and partnerships underscore the government’s resolve to overcome these hurdles.

Digital health solutions, in particular, were identified as a game changer in enhancing service delivery. By leveraging technology, the Ministry aims to improve efficiency in healthcare provision, reduce costs, and expand access to remote and underserved regions.

As part of its broader UHC agenda, the Ministry also emphasized the importance of community engagement and partnerships with stakeholders to ensure that no Kenyan is left behind.

Through the Taifa Care initiative and continued collaboration with SAGAs and other health sector players, the Ministry of Health is making significant strides toward transforming Kenya’s healthcare landscape, ensuring a healthier and more equitable future for all citizens.
