Police in Githunguri Sub-county have launched a full-scale investigation after a loaded firearm was discovered abandoned behind Githinga Police Station. The shocking find has raised concerns about possible links to criminal activity and prompted an urgent security response.

According to police reports, the firearm was found by a local resident, identified as Kaberu, who works as a Community Service Officer (CSO) at the Chief’s office. Kaberu stumbled upon a suspicious bag and was stunned to find a pistol inside.

He immediately reported the matter to the police station, where the case was booked under OB 13/21/04/2025.

The firearm, identified as a Jericho pistol bearing serial number KE.KP.44321352, was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Police officers noted that the weapon was rusty and covered in mud, suggesting it had been abandoned for a considerable period of time.

The discovery triggered a swift response, with the matter being escalated to the arms cache in-charge, the Deputy Officer Commanding the Station, the Githunguri Sub-county Police Commander, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCIO).

Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) from Kiambu County were also dispatched to document the scene and collect evidence.

Authorities have indicated that the abandoned firearm may be connected to a previous report filed at the Limuru Police Station. A signal referencing the firearm was traced back to February 16, 2025, under the case number KPS/DIG/CENT/KBU/LIM/LIMTPS/S&C/2/VOL.I/52.

The weapon has since been secured as evidence by the Sub-county Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) in Githunguri. A forensic analysis is currently underway, with further investigations led by the County Criminal Investigations team in Kiambu.

Police are now working to establish how a loaded weapon ended up near a police facility and whether it may have been involved in any recent criminal activities in the region.
