Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has openly questioned his future at the club following their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, in which he played only 20 minutes despite being instrumental throughout the competition.
United suffered a 1-0 loss in Bilbao on Wednesday night, with Brennan Johnson’s goal sealing the win for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Despite dominating possession, United lacked cutting edge and failed to register a goal, ending a third consecutive season without a trophy or Champions League qualification.
The fallout from the loss has been swift and scathing — and Garnacho did not hold back. Taking to social media after the match, the 19-year-old Argentine expressed his frustration over manager Ruben Amorim’s decision to leave him on the bench until late in the game.
“Until the final, I played EVERY round helping the team… then the final arrived and I play ONLY 20 MINUTES?! I don’t know why,” Garnacho posted on Instagram.
The young star, who played a pivotal role in United’s run to the final, further slammed the team’s overall performance this season.
“It’s difficult for all of us. THIS SEASON HAS BEEN SHIT, total shit. We lost the final, we DIDN’T BEAT ANYONE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE. It’s very difficult,” he added.
Garnacho’s comments have sparked intense speculation about his future at Old Trafford, particularly amid reports that his brother also criticized Amorim’s decision-making online.
Amorim, who prioritized the Europa League over domestic form, has come under fire for his team selection in the final — notably starting Mason Mount and Amad over Garnacho in support of Rasmus Hojlund.
Pundit Ally McCoist called for Garnacho’s introduction at halftime, citing a lack of creativity in attack, but the winger only featured in the final 20 minutes.
