Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a new political party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking his formal entry into the 2027 presidential race.

Unveiled during a high-profile event in Lavington, Nairobi, the party features neon green, brown, and white as its official colours and carries the slogan “Skiza Wakenya”—a call to listen to the people.

The logo, an ear cupped by fingers, symbolizes attentiveness to citizens’ voices.

Gachagua will lead the party as its founding party leader. He is joined by former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as interim Deputy Party Leader and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi as National Organising Secretary.

Other key appointments include former Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru as National Women Leader and ex-Starehe MP Maina Kamanda as Chair of the Council of Eminent Persons.

David Mingati has been named National Chairperson, assisted by Peter Mwathi and Sarah Owino in Strategy and Operations. The Secretary General role goes to Hezron Obanga, with Martin Ole Kamwaro as his deputy. Anna Mutua is the National Treasurer, supported by Evangeline Njoka and Tomwas Nyangi.

Speaking at the launch, Gachagua stressed that the party was founded on extensive grassroots consultations held over six months at his Wamunyoro residence. He described DCP as a platform designed to reflect the real needs of ordinary Kenyans.
