Owalo, who served in the Ruto administration as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency, said remaining in that position would be contradictory to his newly declared political ambition. He confirmed that the resignation was effective immediately upon the announcement of his intention to challenge President Ruto for the top seat in the land.
In the social media announcement, Owalo noted that his interest in the presidency was made all the more incompatible by his ability to remain in government. He further pointed out that the move would enhance his credibility and rule out any possibility of the public office interfering with active campaigning.
While at the Office of the President, Owalo’s brief was to oversee the implementation of government programmes and promote operational efficiency in service delivery among various state departments. His job involved synchronisation of several government units to ensure sound policy and project implementation.
Eliud Owalo is no stranger to national politics, having participated in elections and held various high-ranking government positions over the years. Prior to this current appointment, he served as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, a docket he used to drive major activities and change in the country’s digital and communication sectors.
This resignation signals a significant move for him, as he now prepares to fully transition into active politics and contest in the 2027 presidential elections.
