An Officer Commanding a Police Station (OCS) in Eldoret recorded a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday after being traced in connection with a vehicle reportedly involved in a murder case in Nairobi.

The officer, whose identity is being withheld for investigative purposes, was reportedly found in possession of a Toyota Noah vehicle that had been linked to the murder of the car’s previous owner in Nairobi. According to sources close to the investigation, the OCS is said to have purchased the vehicle for his wife, unaware of its connection to the crime.

The chilling discovery has raised serious concerns, prompting the DCI to launch a full-scale investigation into how the car ended up in the officer’s possession. The car was allegedly involved in the murder, leading investigators to follow its trail to Eldoret, where the officer had been using it for personal purposes.

A senior officer familiar with the case revealed that the DCI is currently examining the transaction process to determine whether the officer was involved or unknowingly bought a vehicle tied to the crime. “We are looking into how the car was acquired and whether due diligence was followed during its purchase,” said the officer.

The Nairobi murder case, in which the vehicle was originally involved, is still under investigation, and detectives are now widening their probe to uncover any possible links between the two incidents.

“We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves. The officer recorded a statement and investigations are ongoing to establish whether there was any wrongdoing on his part or if he is a victim of circumstances,” the DCI official added.

Authorities are also working to trace the car’s ownership history, which will be a critical part of unraveling how the vehicle became linked to the murder case and eventually landed in the hands of the police officer.

The OCS’s colleagues were tight-lipped about the incident, with several officers declining to comment on the unfolding investigations. However, sources indicated that the officer in question had fully cooperated with the investigators and expressed his willingness to clear his name in the matter.
