Bishop Dominic Kimengich of the Eldoret Catholic Diocese has conveyed a poignant message urging Kenyans to approach the current extended holiday season with a balance between cultural ceremonies and spiritual devotion.

Recognizing the prevalence of various ceremonies, such as circumcisions and weddings, during this period, Bishop Kimengich encourages active participation in these events while emphasizing the importance of not neglecting one’s commitment to attending church services.

In the midst of the ongoing extended holiday, where many individuals are taking advantage of the break to travel and connect with family and friends, Bishop Kimengich underscores the significance of maintaining a steadfast connection to one’s faith. He cautions against letting the multitude of cultural celebrations overshadow the essential act of worship.

In his address, Bishop Kimengich notes, “We know that there are a lot of ceremonies, and we pray that as we continue to participate in them, let’s not forget GOD.” He expresses concern over reports indicating a decrease in church attendance during this festive season, attributing it to the allure of various ceremonies and festivities.

“I have been told that Christians have become few because many have gone for ceremonies like circumcision for their children, so let it not be excessive until we forget to go to church,” Bishop Kimengich emphasizes, urging the faithful not to let cultural celebrations overshadow their spiritual obligations.

The bishop’s message serves as a gentle reminder that while embracing and celebrating cultural traditions is important, maintaining a steadfast commitment to one’s faith should not be compromised. Bishop Kimengich’s guidance encourages a harmonious balance between cultural festivities and spiritual devotion, fostering a holistic approach to the holiday season that encompasses both cultural and religious significance.
