The Ministry of Education has affirmed that the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment results for Grade 9 candidates will be released before December 11. Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok assured the country that everything is in place to support the transition of the 1.1 million learners who sat the national assessment this year.

Addressing the media on Monday, Prof. Bitok outlined a structured and well-timed schedule that guides both the release of results and placement into senior school. He explained that the ministry is working to complete the whole process on time to give students and families enough time to prepare for the next phase of schooling.

“Our intention is to release the results and undertake placements within a week. We expect students to receive their placement letters before Christmas and report to senior school on January 12, 2026,” he said. The PS noted that the ministry has already put in place all the necessary systems to avoid delays or disruptions during the transition.

Bitok reiterated that the transition from junior to senior school is on course, adding that clear directives have been issued to ensure that the stakeholders understand the process fully. “We have put in place systems, measures, and everything required for the smooth transition of the 1.1 million learners from start to finish. From where I sit, there is no confusion at all,” he assured.

He added that the Competency-Based Curriculum rollout is on course, dismissing claims that the system is facing major obstacles. In its fourth year at the junior school level, CBC is what the PS described as the most transformative education framework the country has implemented. “I want to assure the nation that CBC is on track. We have addressed every concern and provided clarity on all issues,” he said. “Our roadmap is very clear, and our commitment is that every learner will move on to senior school without exception.”

According to Bitok, every candidate who sat the KJSEA will secure a place in senior school since the country has a capacity of 2.4 million spaces, more than double the number of learners transitioning. “Everyone will get a chance to progress to senior school,” he assured parents and guardians.

The PS also elaborated on the organization of senior school under CBC, explaining that institutions have been clustered into four and learners will have an opportunity to choose between three distinct pathways in line with their strengths and career interests. “We have a very robust structure in place. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure no student is left behind, and all families have the information needed for planning for the transition,” he added. On the preparedness of teachers, Bitok said 229,000 teachers have already been retrained and retooled for the effective delivery of CBC in schools.
