Manchester City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, has encountered another injury setback, raising concerns as the team approaches a pivotal stretch in their Premier League campaign.
The Brazilian international was substituted during City’s recent 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace after experiencing discomfort reminiscent of a previous muscular issue.
Manager Pep Guardiola addressed the situation, stating, “He had muscular problems one/two months ago and was out for a few days; when he passed to Gundogan he felt the same feeling, that’s why he came off.”
This marks the third instance this season where Ederson has been forced off due to injury, following earlier exits against Liverpool and Newcastle United.
In Ederson’s absence, backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is expected to step in. Ortega has demonstrated reliability, having made 17 appearances across all competitions this season and securing seven clean sheets.
City’s upcoming fixtures include matches against Everton on April 19 and Aston Villa on April 22, both crucial as they vie for the Premier League title. The team also faces an FA Cup final against Manchester United on May 25.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of player fitness during this critical period, noting the team’s need for reliable players and addressing the challenges posed by injuries.
