Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, has directed the immediate suspension of 40 health facilities that have been accused of defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA) system. This follows an extensive investigation aimed at rooting out corruption in the healthcare system.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Duale explained that the action is a result of the government’s determination to safeguard public funds and restore integrity within the health system.
Those in Nairobi include Vebeneza Medical Centre Tassia, Imara Healthcare Centre, ABM Specialised Hospital, Dolma Medical Centre, Lego Medical, St. Johns Hospital Ltd, Edris Premier Hospital Ltd, Bristol Park Hospital Fedha, and Selacare Health Services.
We have suspended 40 health facilities that were found defrauding the SHA. The suspension is immediate. They will not get any benefit from SHA during the period. They will also be surcharged for all the lost money,” said Duale.
He also disclosed that some professionals were involved in the racket. Their details have been removed from the SHA system until the investigations are over.
Any doctor or health worker involved will be held accountable. We have handed over the 12 officers involved, along with the facilities, to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). We have also instructed the relevant regulatory bodies to revoke their licences,” Duale stated.
The CS repeated a previous warning by President William Ruto to those attempting to exploit the healthcare system.
“If you are trying to game the system, be forewarned — you are already on our radar. The system is tracking such efforts, and investigations are ongoing,” Ruto had cautioned while unveiling the National Equipment Service Project at State House, Nairobi, on August 7, 2025.
The President also stated that all the guilty ones would be prosecuted.
“At the right time, the results will be made public, and the scammers will be held accountable for their criminal activities,” Ruto added.
The raid is a significant action against malpractice in Kenya’s health sector, and it sends a strong message that scams will not be tolerated.
