Deputy President Kithure Kindiki exuded confidence that candidates fielded under the broad-based coalition will emerge victorious in the forthcoming by-elections. He said that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement have joined hands to ensure mutual support for candidates representing either party, calling on citizens to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes in favor of the coalition-backed aspirants.
Speaking at an Economic Empowerment Forum for Kasipul Constituency at Sikri Vocational Training Centre in Oyugis, Homa Bay County, on Friday, Prof Kindiki reiterated the unity of the coalition and its determination to deliver victory in the by-elections.
“We have reached a common understanding to work as one team and to rally behind all our broad-based candidates. The pact signed between President William Ruto and the late ODM leader Raila Odinga allows us to stand together in supporting candidates from both Kenya Kwanza and ODM,” he said.
The by-elections will be conducted on November 27 in various constituencies, including Kasipul, Ugunja, Malava, Mbeere North, Banisa, and Magarini. In addition, the electorate will vote for the vacant Baringo Senate seat and several MCA seats.
The Deputy President said the coalition has thrown its full weight behind all ODM candidates in Kasipul, Ugunja, and Magarini, just as it does for UDA candidates in Malava, Banisa, Mbeere North, and Baringo. In Kasipul, the coalition is backing Mr. Boyd Were of ODM as their preferred candidate.
“In Kasipul, we are standing firmly with the ODM candidate. The same unity applies in Ugunja and Magarini, as well as in the areas where UDA has fielded aspirants,” Kindiki emphasized.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who is also ODM National Chairperson, reiterated the party’s commitment to the broad-based partnership while promising to support all coalition candidates. “We are united under this agreement, and we shall back all our broad-based coalition candidates in the upcoming by-elections,” she said.
Governor Wanga also noted that ODM remains part of the government, just as the late Raila Odinga had directed: “Baba left us inside this broad-based government, and that is where we will continue to be.”
Deputy President Kindiki said the government, through President Ruto’s administration, is working day and night to complete major development projects in Homa Bay County and the entire Nyanza region. He listed Ksh.2 billion for the last-mile electricity connections that will connect 26,000 households, while Ksh.15.8 billion will be used to fund new markets, affordable housing, and hostels for learning institutions.
In addition, road projects that had stalled are being revived, with Ksh.8.5 billion allocated for key infrastructure works, including the upcoming Sikri-Lida road construction. He concluded by clarifying that the government’s current preoccupation is development delivery, not early political campaigns. “Our focus remains on fulfilling our promises. When the right time comes, we will let our record speak for itself,” he said.
