Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have revealed the discovery of additional evidence at the residence of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who is accused of murdering 42 women, dismembering their bodies, and dumping them in sacks at a quarry in the Kware area of Mukuru kwa Njenga.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DCI reported that upon revisiting Khalusha’s residence, investigators found several bloodstained items, including a hammer, scissors, and knives. These items are believed to be connected to the crimes.
“Among the items recovered were a bloodstained pillowcase, a T-shirt with noticeable bloodstains, a bloodstained hammer and pliers, a bloodstained pair of scissors, and three bloodstained knives,” stated the DCI.
The DCI also confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and both the suspect’s house and the dumpsite remain active crime scenes.
Additionally, a court has granted police permission to detain two men allegedly found with a mobile phone and two SIM cards belonging to one of the victims, Roselyn Akoth Ogongo. The suspects, Amos Momanyi and Moses Ogembo, were arrested in the Pipeline estate in Embakasi on July 16 and will be held at the Muthaiga police station for 28 days while further investigations continue.
During interrogation, Momanyi led the DCI to Ogembo, claiming that Ogembo had sold him the mobile device.
“The case under investigation has elicited public outcry, anger, and related emotions. The respondents (Momanyi and Ogembo) are still presumed innocent; therefore, their safety is paramount, and to ensure justice, the court has to consider all parties – the respondents and the families of the deceased victims,” said Irene Gichobi, Principal Magistrate of Makadara Law Courts.
The DCI claims that Khalusha, the prime suspect, has confirmed collaborating with Momanyi and Ogembo in executing the murders.
“During the arrest of Momanyi and Ogembo, the police managed to recover many exhibits, including more than 154 assorted models of mobile phones, 27 assorted SIM cards, a national identity card, among other items which are of crucial evidential value to the ongoing investigations and which need more time to be submitted to forensic investigations,” stated Patrick Wachira, Inspector of DCI’s Homicide Unit.
