Lands, Housing, and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, blaming him for deliberately undermining and disrespecting leaders in the Mt. Kenya area and across the country. Wahome stated that she would no longer remain silent as Gachagua kept propagating false information and undermining colleagues in government.

Responding to Muruka shopping centre in Kandara constituency, Wahome beautifully responded to the remarks allegedly made by Gachagua, who recently referred to her as a “flower girl” in President William Ruto’s Cabinet. She termed his comment as insincere and not worth it, emphasizing that her appointment as Lands CS was due to hard work and delivery of services to Kenyans and not politics.

I would like to make Rigathi Gachagua aware that this kind of politics of demeaning other leaders is not respectable and not useful. Leaders are meant to receive support through presenting their agendas, and not by being insulting. I have never met him; I am not in his political party or party. I am working for Kenyans as Minister for Lands,” she stated.

Wahome also explained that her differences with Gachagua are not new, claiming that he had always been an obstacle to her even when he was Deputy President. “Since we were in government, he never supported me. He tried to undermine my efforts and even wished me failure. He should now leave me alone,” she said.

The CS Lands emphasized her commitment to her ministry, mentioning some of the major projects under her portfolio such as the construction of new markets under the Economic Stimulus Programme, the execution of low-cost housing schemes, and the construction of Kandara Level 4 Bildad Kaggia Hospital. She emphasized her focus on deploying development projects for the people.

Issuing a stern warning, Wahome stated that she would not be scared by Gachagua’s attacks. “Gachagua thinks he can make me afraid, but I am not one who is afraid of him. He has crossed my line, and now it is between us two.”. He even stated that I have no say in the government, but the reality is that I am performing my task to the maximum. If he doesn’t have any business, he can go out alone,” she claimed.

She also condemned the “one-term presidency” campaign being championed by some political leaders, claiming that such individuals advocating for it are the same ones headed for political oblivion. President Ruto will be re-elected in 2027 by most Kenyans as a result of his performance in leadership and development, claims Wahome.

Wahome concluded by urging Gachagua, as the new DCP leader, to give respect to fellow leaders and pursue political affiliation on his own principles and not endless criticizing himself. She asserted that leadership comes through service and respect and not through bringing others down.
