Governor Jonathan Bii: Committed to Transforming Healthcare in Uasin Gishu with the State-of-the-Art Country Diagnostic Medical Centre
The construction of the Country Diagnostic Medical Centre has officially commenced in Uasin Gishu County, marking a significant milestone in the county’s efforts to enhance healthcare access and reduce congestion in existing medical facilities. The four-story hospital, with an estimated cost of KSh 437 million, is expected to be completed by 2027, according to Governor Jonathan Bii.
Speaking at Eldoret District Hospital, the proposed site of the multi-million-shilling project, Governor Bii urged the contractor to adhere to the agreed timeline, emphasizing the urgency of the facility in addressing the rising demand for quality healthcare in the region.
“Once this facility is completed, it will help decongest Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, which is often overcrowded with patients from various counties seeking medical services,” Bii stated.
The new facility is expected to transform healthcare delivery in Uasin Gishu by offering specialized medical services to thousands of patients. The hospital will be designed to accommodate a wide range of medical departments, ensuring that patients can access advanced treatment without having to travel long distances.
The ground floor will be dedicated to emergency and accident care, ultrasound, pediatrics, a pharmacy, and laboratory services, allowing for the immediate assessment and treatment of patients. The first floor will house critical diagnostic and surgical services, including the radiology department, X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, theatre, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ensuring that patients in need of advanced imaging and emergency surgical procedures receive timely intervention.
The second floor will cater to children’s, male, and female wards, including a High Dependency Unit (HDU) for patients requiring intensive monitoring and specialized care. The third floor will serve as office space for specialized doctors, enabling the hospital to attract and retain top medical professionals. Meanwhile, the fourth floor will be allocated for conference and lecture halls, providing a platform for medical training, research, and professional development for healthcare practitioners.
In addition to its infrastructure, the hospital is set to be fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, with an additional KSh 300 million allocated for medical equipment. The facility will be situated strategically near the Eldoret High Court buildings, ensuring accessibility for both local residents and patients from neighboring counties.
Governor Bii reiterated that the hospital’s construction is part of his Nguzo Kumi manifesto, a promise he made during the last general election to improve healthcare services in Uasin Gishu County. He reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to seeing the project through to completion.
“This facility will provide much-needed relief to our residents and those from neighboring counties by offering affordable, high-quality healthcare services,” he affirmed.
The Country Diagnostic Medical Centre is expected to become a cornerstone of modern healthcare delivery in the region, significantly reducing the pressure on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and other existing health institutions. By decentralizing medical services, the facility aims to improve access to essential care, shorten wait times for critical procedures, and ultimately improve the overall well-being of patients in Uasin Gishu and beyond.
