Kenya Volleyball Federation Busia branch interim office held a volleyball tournament over the weekend with 20 teams both men and women drawn from seven Sub-counties participating with the aim of selecting players to form county teams that would compete at national level.

 

 

Kenya Volleyball Federation Busia branch interim chairman Bernard Musumba a former national Volleyball team player revealed that their plan is to nurture the young untapped talents from the grassroots through formation of two volleyball teams, men and women.

 

 

Speaking during the tournament,Busia deputy governor Arthur Odera stated that the county government is committed to improve the sports infrastructure and sponsor all the sports disciplines like football, basketball, volleyball among others.

“We have huge talents in this county and therefore we want to give our youths the opportunities to expose their talents to teams in this country that want to recruit players which will earn them a living,said Odera”

 

Busia sports and culture committee member Paul Ekwenye affirmed that they have used the tournament to pick the U-23 volleyball players in preparation for the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) which will be held in March this year in Tharaka Nithi county.
