Police in Bungoma County have launched investigations into an incident where a one-and-a-half-year-old boy accidentally fell into a borehole and drowned in Kituli village. Authorities said the toddler was reported missing shortly before his body was found inside the uncovered borehole within the family compound.

The incident was confirmed by Issa Mohamud, the Police Commander of the Western Region, who pointed out that the police is still investigating how the child ended up in the borehole unattended. He says some of the circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear as investigators try to piece together what happened. The body of the young boy was retrieved from the water and taken to the local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed.

According to the child’s parents, their son had been playing outside their home before he wandered off. They say that he strayed into a neighboring compound where the unprotected borehole is located. The sad incident occurred on Wednesday evening, raising concern over safety hazards posed by uncovered wells in the area.

In another incident reported in Bungoma County, an 80-year-old woman was found dead inside her house in Sacho village, Kapsokwony. A neighbour discovered her body after noticing she had not been seen for most of the day. Concerned about her whereabouts, the neighbour visited her and found her lifeless body inside the house. Police visited the homestead and moved the body to the mortuary as they launch investigations to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, in Kisumu County, detectives have launched an investigation into the death of a scrap metal dealer whose decomposing body was found in a backstreet near Holo Market. The deceased, identified as Rogers Shishiali, is believed to have been murdered, although officers said they were still trying to establish the motive. Preliminary police reports point out that Shishiali might have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene. His body was moved to the mortuary for post-mortem.
