Bomet Tragedy: Man Allegedly Kills Wife, Dies by Suicide in Konoin

A tragic domestic incident has shocked residents of Kipraisi area in Konoin, Bomet County, after a 39-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.

According to Konoin Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Godana, the man, identified as Nicholas Rotich, is said to have attacked his 27-year-old wife, Faith Rotich, using a panga, inflicting fatal injuries. The victim reportedly succumbed to excessive bleeding at the scene.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect assaulted his wife, causing severe injuries that led to her death,” said Godana.

Police further revealed that shortly after the incident, Rotich is believed to have taken a rope, proceeded to a nearby tree, and hanged himself. His body was later discovered by neighbours, prompting authorities to respond to the scene.

Mr. Godana noted that the couple had reportedly been experiencing prolonged domestic disputes, despite efforts by family members and friends to intervene and resolve the conflicts.

“This appears to have been a case of long-standing domestic disagreements, which had been reported and addressed by relatives, but unfortunately persisted,” he added.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with many expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence in the region.

The couple is survived by three children, who are now grappling with the devastating loss of both parents.

Police processed the scene and transferred the bodies to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.
