Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii on Friday joined hundreds of Catholic Faithfuls for a special Holy Mass and solemn procession to Mlango at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral in Eldoret. The event was in honor of Bishop-elect Rt. Rev. John Kiplimo Lelei.
It was a day ahead of the official installation of Bishop-elect Lelei. The installation takes place tomorrow, Saturday, at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex in Kapsabet. It will be a historic occasion when Bishop-elect Lelei will be installed as the first bishop of the newly established Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet. Thousands of believers, clergy, and dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony.
In his message, Governor Bii praised Bishop-elect Lelei as a humble and committed servant of God. He described him as a leader guided by faith, wisdom, and a strong dedication to service in the Church. The governor added that Lelei’s elevation was not only a blessing to Catholics in Kapsabet but also a source of pride for the entire region.
This is a significant moment for our people,” Governor Bii remarked. “We congratulate Bishop-elect Lelei on this divine calling and pray that the Holy Spirit continue to guide him in his mission of service.”.
The governor noted that the creation of the Diocese of Kapsabet and its first bishop signify the continued growth of the Catholic Church in Kenya. The new diocese, he continued, will bring the Church closer to the people by strengthening evangelization and pastoral care.
Governor Bii also reaffirmed his commitment to religious institutions. He stated that religious institutions play a vital role in imparting moral values, ensuring peace, and harmony in society. Their contribution towards social development, he added, is unmatched.
For Catholics, today’s procession and Holy Mass set the stage for tomorrow’s main event. The installation of Bishop-elect Lelei will be a milestone in the history of the Church, not only in Kapsabet but also in the whole of the Rift Valley.
The anticipation is already building in readiness for the event, with thousands expected to witness the official installation of Bishop-elect John Kiplimo Lelei as the first bishop of the Diocese of Kapsabet.
