Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has fiercely criticized the one-match suspension handed to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé, calling it a “disgrace” and “totally absurd.”
The ban stems from a controversial incident during a recent match, where Mbappé’s challenge sparked outrage among fans and officials.
Yuste expressed his frustration in a press conference, arguing that the punishment was far too lenient.
“He could’ve caused a bad injury,” Yuste stated, emphasizing the potential severity of Mbappé’s actions. He further contrasted the incident with Barcelona’s ethos, saying, “If one of our players did that, which they wouldn’t, because our guys are clean players, I don’t know what would happen to them. It’s unfair.”
The remarks have ignited a heated debate in the football world, with some accusing Yuste of bias, while others agree that the suspension fails to reflect the seriousness of the foul.
The incident has also reignited tensions between Barcelona and PSG, two clubs with a storied rivalry in European competitions.
Mbappé, who has not publicly responded to Yuste’s comments, will serve his one-match ban in PSG’s upcoming fixture, though the brevity of the suspension has left many questioning the consistency of disciplinary decisions in football.
Barcelona fans have taken to social media to echo Yuste’s sentiments, while PSG supporters argue the ban is proportionate.
As the controversy simmers, the football community awaits further developments, with Yuste’s outspoken criticism likely to keep the issue in the spotlight. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about player safety and fairness in the sport.
