Economic hardship has forced a family from Mumbi village in Githurai 45 to consider abandoning their kin’s body at Kenyatta university morgue over 7.9 million pending hospital bill.
The deceased husband, Antony Mburu, says efforts to raise the money through well-wishers and harambee have not been successful and they are now pleading with the government and the morgue management for a waiver.
“The hospital notified us to pay at least 75% of the bill so as to take the body from the facility which tends to be difficult considering today’s economic hardship we are unable to raise that amount of money, ”Mburu shared.
The deceased, Ann Waithera was admitted to the facility in December last year and was under intensive care for six months when she succumbed.
According to the deceased cousin, Ann Waithera’s death has been a great challenge to the family and the deceased children who continue to agonize having failed to accord Ann Waithera a burial.
