Junior Secondary Should Remain on Primary School Premises
By Salma Mlamba
Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT now wants the junior secondary school to remain on primary schools premises instead of proceeding to secondary.
Speaking to the press at St Thomas girls, in Kilifi, during a meeting with the CBC taskforce KNUT, the Executive Secretary, of Malindi County says primary schools have enough infrastructure compared to secondary schools.
“As a teachers Union we want Junior secondary to remain in Primary schools since they have enough classes and if the CBC students currently in primary school proceed to secondary, they would lack space due to few number of classrooms” Said Nguma.
Nguma further said that it is very important for the curriculum to be reviewed first to reduce the cost burden on parents.
“It is important for the curriculum to be reviewed, so as to reduce the cost for the parents” Said Nguma.
Uledi Moses, the chair in charge of adult education in Malindi, holds a different opinion regarding the implementation of the curriculum.
“The implementation of the CBC curriculum has been rushed, there is a need for changes to be made and more teachers employed so that they can implement it,” said Uledi
