Alice Wahome, Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, recently shared insights from her development tour of Uasin Gishu County through her verified social media platforms.

The tour highlighted significant affordable housing initiatives and infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents in informal settlements.

Wahome underscored that access to affordable, quality housing is essential for poverty alleviation, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering sustainable development.

Among the key projects presented were the  Affordable Housing Projects in the Pioneer and Kidiwa areas of Uasin Gishu County.

These initiatives seek to provide low-cost housing options to residents while improving overall living conditions.

According to Wahome, these efforts are part of a larger national strategy to ensure Kenyans have access to secure, safe, and dignified living spaces.

During her visit, Wahome also reviewed ongoing developments under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase II (KISIP II).

KISIP II is a government-led initiative focused on upgrading informal settlements through the construction of essential infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, and drainage systems.

The project is currently underway in several settlements in Uasin Gishu, such as Kipkaren, Mwanzo, and Langas.

Accompanying Wahome on this tour were key county officials, including Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Hon. Jonathan Bii, Langas MCA Hon. Peter Muya, Racecourse MCA Hon. Amos Kiptanui, Ngeria MCA Hon. Richard Kering, Kipkenyo MCA Hon. David Letting, Kiplombe MCA Hon. Gilbert Langat, Huruma Ward MCA Hon. Kimani Wanjohi, and Nominated MCA Hon. Caroline Cherono.

The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the transformative impact of KISIP II, noting that projects like affordable housing and infrastructure development are vital for improving the living conditions of informal settlement residents.

She further emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing housing challenges as a key component of poverty reduction and equal opportunity creation.

Local leaders echoed Wahome’s sentiments, commending the government’s initiatives to tackle housing issues in the county.

The collaboration between national and county governments is seen as a vital step toward achieving the housing objectives outlined in the government’s Big Four Agenda.

Wahome’s visit underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between various stakeholders to ensure that development projects effectively contribute to improving the lives of citizens.
