The Judiciary in Eldoret to Plant over 3,000 Tree Seedlings to mitigate on Climate Change

Eldoret chief magistrate, Dennis Mikoyan in collaboration with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Services, ELDOWAS, Friday led a section of judicial officers in the planting of indigenous trees, at the Eldoret law courts compound.
While addressing the media, Mikoyan pointed out that this was just the first phase of planting trees at the Courts Premises, with the aim of being part and parcel of championing for Environmental conservation efforts to mitigate climate change.
Going forward , the exercise is expected to be done once every month, to help assist in arresting climate change that is adversely affecting the entire world with close to Four Million Kenyans facing drought and starvation.
“Once every month, we will have an event like this, where we will clean the compound, check on our trees and where possible assist in arresting climate change” said Mikoyan
He also said that they are targeting to plant over three thousand trees within the court’s compound; this is to be achieved over a period of time.

“We are looking towards planting about 3 thousand trees here, but over a period of time, this will be achieved through partnering with other like minded institutions “Said Mikoyan.
The Chief Magistrate emphasized the importance of the tree planting exercise saying, it was his pride as a Kenyan citizen to have a good environment and that additionally the exercise also helps in team building by bringing the judicial officers together as a team.
“Besides serving litigants with issues dealing with justice, we also meet as judicial officers, judges and magistrates and have a moment or two, just to carry out such activities that are beneficial to the society” said Mikoyan
He is also optimistic of growth in the number of organizations participating in the tree planting exercise and that in future they will continue to sensitize more people and organizations to join their cause.
