“These false statements are intended to mislead the public and undermine the County of Uasin Gishu,”

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has raised concerns about a disinformation campaign targeting the county and its governor. According to an official press release, unscrupulous individuals are reportedly producing and disseminating fake statements attributed to the Governor of Uasin Gishu.

“These false statements are intended to mislead the public and undermine the County of Uasin Gishu,” the press release stated. The county government emphasized that all official communications from the Governor’s office are disseminated through formal channels and any information not released through these channels should be considered unverified and potentially false.

The statement further clarified, “The Constitution is clear on matters of disinformation, which is unlawful. A good example is individuals on social media sharing unverified information.”

The county government through the director governs press described the disinformation campaign as a deliberate attempt to disparage the office of the Governor and his administration. “We hereby urge the public to remain vigilant and disregard any unofficial statements,” the release added.

The governor has been misquoted on several occasions, the latest instance being the false attribution of his comments describing the Gen Z demonstrations witnessed on Tuesday as “stupidity.” On Wednesday, the governor was also incorrectly linked to an online poster allegedly urging youth to protect Eldoret town against planned demonstrations on Thursday.
