Human rights organizations in the North Rift region have commended Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki for his efforts in bringing relative calm and peace to the region, which has suffered for decades from cattle rustling that has caused death and displacement.

Kipkorir Ngetich, Programs Officer at the Center for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD), said that the rights groups were pleased with the progress that had been made in recent months, attributing it to the cabinet secretary’s hands-on approach and commitment to addressing the root causes of the conflict.

“We have seen a significant reduction in cattle rustling incidents in recent months, and this is largely due to the cabinet secretary’s efforts,” Ngetich said. “He has been very engaged with the communities in the region, and he has taken concrete steps to address their grievances.”

The rights groups have also urged for the non-politicization of the cabinet secretary’s many visits across the country. They said that his efforts should be supported by all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliation.

“The cabinet secretary’s visits are not about politics,” Ngetich said. “They are about trying to bring peace and stability to a region that has suffered for far too long. We urge all Kenyans to support his efforts.”

The cabinet secretary has been praised for his willingness to listen to the concerns of the communities in the North Rift region. He has also been credited with taking a tough stance on cattle rustling, cracking down on those who are involved in the practice.

“The cabinet secretary has made it clear that he will not tolerate cattle rustling,” Ngetich said. “This has sent a strong message to those who are involved in the practice, and it has helped to deter them from continuing their activities.”

The rights groups have also called for increased investment in development projects in the North Rift region. They said that this would help to create jobs and opportunities for young people, and it would reduce the risk of them turning to cattle rustling as a means of livelihood.

“We need to address the underlying causes of cattle rustling,” Ngetich said. “This means investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the North Rift region. It also means creating jobs and opportunities for young people.”

The rights groups are hopeful that the recent progress in bringing peace to the North Rift region will continue. They have pledged their support to the cabinet secretary in his efforts to achieve this goal.

“We believe that the cabinet secretary is on the right track,” Ngetich said. “We are committed to working with him to achieve a lasting peace in the North Rift region.
