Simon Chelugui, the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, has announced his ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the county government to empower women’s cooperatives and MSMEs and promote growth.
During the Women in Cooperatives and MSMEs forum, he revealed that Uasin Gishu County will receive 25 of the 650 coolers being distributed to women’s groups and cooperatives. He also encouraged women to obtain affordable financing from the Co-operative Bank and other financial institutions.
Chelugui highlighted the availability of loans up to 20 million shillings for businesses through the Youth Fund, Uwezo Fund, and Kenya Industrial Estate.
Additionally, he revealed that the ministry will invest 500 million shillings in the Eldoret new KCC plant to facilitate instant milk exports. The plant is responsible for processing and packaging milk for export.
Chelugui also expressed unease over the low forest cover in Uasin Gishu County, which is currently below 7%. He reminded everyone that Tree Planting Day falls on 13th November and encouraged their involvement.
