Elgeyo:400 diagnosed with Malaria,cases upsurge!

At least 400 people have been diagnosed with Malaria disease in various health facilities in Kerio Valley in the past Two weeks.
According to Health authorities, the number of patients seeking treatment has continued to increase by the day with local institutions being affected.
Consequently, the County government of Elgeyo Marakwet Public Health department has since responded to the outbreak.
Chief Officer Preventive and Promotive Health Services Ms. Caroline Magut is leading a response team on the ground carrying out Prevention and control of the disease.
Addressing a public Sensitization meeting at Chesongoch centre, Ms. Magut said over 11,000 households across the County have been mapped out for Indoor Residual Spraying IRS.
“We are alive to the upsurge and we are not leaving anything to chance. My department is up to the task. We have already sensitised our Community Health Promoters on the way forward,” said Magut.
The affected areas include Endo, Lower Sambirir, Arror, Emso and Tambach electoral Wards.
Ms Magut said the department is also monitoring the situation in parts of the low lands of Keiyo South Sub county.
Learners in several schools in Kerio Valley were reportedly treated with some being admitted for the disease.
Mr Jonathan Murtich, the Medical Officer of Health MOH Marakwet East sub-county said all the cases have been confirmed positive for malaria.
“The patients presented similar symptoms notably general body weakness, fever and headache,” said the medic.
