Eldoret Court Orders Security Officers To produce A notorious illicit Brewer

The Uasin Gishu county commissioner Dr.Edyson Nyale has issued an ultimatum to a notorious illicit brewer to surrender himself  to security officers in the  Directorate of  criminal investigations, this is  after  an Eldoret Court ordered the officers to produce the  brewer in Court  within 14 days.

Speaking to journalists after  leading a Crackdown on illicit  brew in Munyaka Estate in Moiben Sub county ,Dr.Nyale  noted  that the notorious brewer was running a  syndicate  involved in the brewing of  second generation liquor at  rented  apartments within Eldoret and warned his days were numbered,

“Acting on a  tip off we managed to raid this four  bedroom house that has  been converted into a factory plant  for  second  generation liquor, this is the second building police  officers  are  raiding with a  similar liquor  processing plant, we believe the  dealer has a ready market in some of  the popular Night Clubs and bars ,our  security officers  will sure  catch up with him and any other  persons  involved in this  syndicate” Warned Dr Nyale.

“The operation to arrest illegal brewers started Monday this week, we will work hand in hand with NGAO  officers  and members of the Public  to ensure  we  stem out all those involved in the  illegal trade that continues to threaten the lives of  our citizens and more so the  Young people” Said Nyale.

The County Commissioner  has declared that business people who will be caught  engaging in the sale of illicit alcohol will have  their licenses withdrawn by the County Government of  Uasin Gishu.

“We urge the residents of Uasin Gishu county to engage in clean and legit businesses , we have engaged  other  stakeholders  such as  the Kenya National Chamber of  commerce and industry(KNCCI) Uasin gishu chapter  in the fight  against illicit trade, the  crackdown has been successful in notorious estates  such as Munyaka, Huruma, King’ong”o and  Langas , we will double our efforts  in the coming weeks on the  fight against illicit trade” Said Dr.Nyale.

186 cartons of Counterfeit spirits of Silver Star brand  and  71 cartons of counterfeit Golden Dream spirits were confiscated in the crackdown, including  90 liters of ethanol, 77 sacks of empty bottles, Assorted labels and bottle tops as well as  a motor Vehicle Reg No. KDH 692 V Toyota Hiace.

Three suspects have been arrested and will be aligned in court.

According to a new report by International Alliance for responsible Drinking (IARD) up to 60% of alcohol in Kenya is illicit and dangerous, more than double the previous estimate done by The World Health Organization (WHO).
